Preparing for Your Treatment
Here's what you need to know before your appointment to make your treatment more comfortable and achieve the best results.
just say no
Avoid caffeine 6-10 hours, alcohol 12 hours, and smoking/vaping 2-4 hours prior to your appointment - these can dehydrate your skin, increase sensitivity, and impact healing.
Extra stress and your menstrual cycle(if applicable) can also affect your comfort during treatment.
stay hydrated
Daily moisturizing can also help keep the skin hydrated. Also be sure to drink water the day before, day of, and day after treatment.
Hydrated skin responds better during and after treatment.
take something
You may want to try taking your favorite over-the-counter anti-inflammatory/pain reliever 30 minutes before your treatment. For some clients a topical anesthetic (numbing cream) applied prior to treatment can be helpful. If you are highly sensitive, you could talk to your doctor about getting a numbing cream to apply prior to appointments. And taking an antacid an hour before treatment can help reduce redness (weird, but true!)
don't be scarred
Avoid retinol or AHA products and treatments by a dermatologist or aesthetician (such as chemical peel, microdermabrasion, etc.) for at least 2 weeks before and after treatment.
Also avoid excessive sun exposure as we wouldn't want to treat skin that is sunburned.
let it grow
Stop shaving 3 days prior to your appointment. We need to be able to see and comfortably remove the hair once it has been treated (usually 3 days growth).
Stop plucking altogether. (Remember this causes your hormonal hair growth to become thicker!)
You can shave or trim hair between appointments but be sure to leave it long enough for us to treat.
get comfortable
Feel free to bring headphones if you'd like to zone out or be distracted during your treatment. We won't take it personally! We just want you to be comfortable.
